Out of a list of more than 210 health care startups applications across India, Bio Asia 2016 selected 40 startups for Conference that was held at Hyderabad. These 40 were scrutinized by panel of esteemed judges and five were selected for the award. BioMEDS that came into market in 2013 is a Hyderabad based healthcare startup which aimes to Uberize brick and motor pharmacies in Pharma-Retail sector. When customers order medicines on bookMEDS app or on bookMEDS website, it shows pharmacies that are located near customer’s house from which customer can select the pharmacy that could deliver. More than 270 pharmacies across Kolkata, Patna, Bhopal, Lucknow and Delhi signed up with bookMEDS. It is considered as fourth largest chain of pharmacies in India.
Mohammed Abubakr the Chief Executive Officer of BookMEDS said that the award from Bio Asia is recognition of the hard work put they put in. Pharma Retail had a market of $13 billion in 2015 and has $35 billion growth expectation by 2020 and BioMEDS aims to capture three to five percent of this market in five years. BioMEDS Believes on innovative ideas to attract customers rather than discount offer. BookMEDS is at the verge of expanding PAN India with 35 employees in board and in-house development team. Started out of Hyderabad and with a tough competition from Pharmacies like Medplus, Apollo and Hetro, BookMEDS has proved itself. Crack pharmacy market of Hyderabad, one can crack the market anywhere in the world and this is the mantra, the BookMEDS team knows.
The BookMEDS app not only enables the customer order medicines to doorstep but also aims to become a virtual medical assistant, like Cortona or Siri who are speclized for healthcare and medicine. There has been a continuous development in functionality of BookMEDS app in past three months. The article from Pharmacists Association of India the IPA which opposes online order on medicines was an eye opener for this development.
